Juneau, Alaska — The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation is accepting proposals for projects that protect or improve the quality of Alaska’s surface waters. Approximately $900,000 is expected to be available through the Alaska Clean Water Actions grant program. Funding is contingent on federal appropriations and availability.

"The ACWA grant program has been successfully working in communities throughout Alaska" noted Gene McCabe, DEC Director of Water. "These grant projects are a real opportunity to take care of waterbodies where we live, work, and play."

Grant funds may be used to conduct watershed or stormwater planning; design and implement best management practices that protect or improve water quality; monitor water quality; or conduct public outreach and education.

Eligible applicants include state agencies, local and tribal governments, nongovernmental and tribal organizations, for-profit organizations, universities and conservation districts. Eligibility varies by funding source and project type. No matching funds are required.

Projects may begin as early as March 1, 2027, and must be completed by February 28, 2029. Applications must be submitted by email to dec.acwa.grants@alaska.gov no later than 11:59 p.m. Alaska time Friday, October 16, 2026.

DEC will host a public webinar from 10 to 11 a.m. Alaska time September 10 to provide an overview of the grant opportunity, review the application process and answer questions. For more information about ACWA grant priorities, eligibility, the solicitation process and the webinar, visit DEC's ACWA application web page.
